Supporting workers in Rwanda: responding to the effects of genocide

A partnership between Evanston Family Therapy Center, Dulwich Centre Institute of Community Practice & Ibuka

In November 2007, a team from the Dulwich Centre Institute of Community Practice and the Evanston Family Therapy Centre (Cheryl White, Jill Freedman & David Denborough ) headed to Kigali , Rwanda , to provide support and training to the workers at IBUKA, the national association of survivors of the Rwandan genocide. Over ten days we met with and offered training to a group of 34 trauma counselors and assistant lawyers, all of whom are themselves survivors of the genocide. It was, as you would imagine, a profoundly significant experience. We are now in the process of finalizing a series of documents that were created while we were there as well as a DVD. Early next year these will all be available to those of you who would like to know more about this work.

For more information about Ibuka, you may be also interested to read an interview with Kaboyi Benoit (Click here).
